Cybercrime Course

COURSE OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this course is to provide training on conducting criminal investigations online, including investigative techniques and collection of electronic evidence. The course assumes that investigators have a basic understanding of electronic evidence collection and collection of non-electronic evidence, such as interviewing witnesses.

COURSE CONDUCT

The course will be conducted over three and a half days, from Sunday to Wednesday. Accommodation will be provided to the participants at the Villa Grébovka. The course of instruction is divided into blocks of training with an overall theme for each block. Students will be expected to follow the lectures and participate by completing online exercises in class, during breakout sessions, and as homework assignments, as needed. On the last day of class, students will be given a scenario and be asked to use the training, tools, and resources provided during the class, to analyze the scenario and design an initial investigative plan and present it to the class.

COURSE MATERIALS

Students are required to bring a laptop pre-loaded with online programs and applications, a list of which will be provided prior to the first day of class. The course materials will be presented exclusively online. Instructors’ presentations and lecture materials will be made available to the students at the end of each training day. In-classroom training will be interactive to the extent possible.

PARTICIPANTS

This training is open to lawenforcement representatives and investigative journalists. Some sessions will be conducted in a format “law-enforcementto-law-enforcement” and might not be available for investigative journalists.
