DESCRIPTION:Justice and Spirituality\n\n\nJune 25 | 7:30pm-8:30pm CST | 5:30pm-6:30pm PST | Online Only \n \nDescription\nJoin us for a conversation featuring Oblate School of Theology’s Affiliated Professor of Spirituality\, Daniel P. Horan\, OFM\, PhD as he fleshes out the Christian call to attend to issues of justice. How do we become more attentive to the needs of those we consider “other” within both human communities and the more-than-human world? How do we attune ourselves to the interconnectedness of all creation? And how does this relate to living out our Christian faith? \nThis interview is intended to illuminate the Christian understanding of justice and will be conducted by retired civil rights investigator Dcn. David Rolandelli and Sabrina Harper\, Associate of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and Pastoral Associate at St. Matthias Church\, Redwood City\, California. Participants will have the opportunity to ask Fr. Dan their own questions and learn about the spirituality programs (Certificate\, MA\, and PhD) at Oblate School of Theology. \nThe Master of Arts in Spirituality is an ATS accredited graduate level academic program designed to help students from a variety of Christian religious traditions deepen their understanding of Christian spirituality. Students will study various classical and contemporary Christian spiritual and mystical traditions\, movements\, and figures. Graduates will be equipped to better understand their own spiritual journey and prepared to be valuable resources for spirituality and renewal centers\, parish and retreat work\, as well as other spirituality-related faith formation and educational programs in a culturally diverse and globalized world. Students will also be encouraged to participate in cohort integration groups. This program is 36 credits and is available online or face-to-face. \nThe Certificate in Spirituality Studies provides an in-depth understanding of Christian spirituality that enables students to “draw from the deep wells of the tradition” in order to more carefully respond to their spiritual needs and be in service to others. Students study various Christian spiritual and mystical traditions in order that they might more fully understand the relationship of spirituality to various theological\, ethical\, ecclesial\, and practical concerns. This program is 18 credits and is available online or face-to-face. \nSpeaker\nDaniel P. Horan\, OFM\, PhD is Professor of Philosophy\, Religious Studies\, and Theology and the Director of the Center for the Study of Spirituality at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame\, IN. He is also Affiliated Professor of Spirituality at the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio\, TX. At OST\, he has taught PhD and MA level classes on Thomas Merton\, Franciscan Spirituality\, and Justice and Spirituality. A columnist for National Catholic Reporter\, he is the author of fourteen books including the award-winning Catholicity and Emerging Personhood: A Contemporary Theological Anthropology (2019) and The Franciscan Heart of Thomas Merton: A New Look at the Spiritual Influence on his Life\, Thought\, and Writing (2014). Horan’s most recent books are A White Catholic’s Guide to Racism and Privilege (2021) and The Way of the Franciscans: A Prayer Journey Through Lent (2021). They also attract weighty criticism due to oversimplification\, assumptions used and the complexity of social reality among other reasons. This webinar will focus on the relationship between wargaming and other modelling approaches in social sciences\, especially game theory. What are the key complementarities? We will locate wargaming in this broader map of social science models to see how it can contribute to better learning and better understanding of social reality. \nBio: Pijus Krūminas is an Associate Professor and programme director at ISM University of Management and Economics in Vilnius\, Lithuania. There he runs classes on wargaming\, game theory\, and comparative politics\, supervises theses based on games as a data collection method\, and simply educates about serious games. Pijus has also been running wargame-based seminars in the field of security and military education.

The book explores how general international law and international investment law intersect and influence each other in investor-state arbitration and how ISDS may inspire the practice of international courts and tribunals on general international law. This Commentary covers a broad spectrum of topics\, from treaty law and state responsibility to state succession and immunity\, sources\, and cross-cutting procedural and substantive aspects. Throughout its forty-six chapters\, this Commentary meticulously examines various provisions from significant sources of public international law\, such as the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties and the International Law Commission’s Articles on the Responsibility of States for Internationally Wrongful Acts. DESCRIPTION:The CRS Summer Course will be held from June 3-7\, 2024. The course will be offered in a hybrid format.\n\n\nSummer Course on Forced Migration: Exploring the intersections between forced migration and technology \nThe course will be offered in a hybrid format\, with some participants attending in person and some attending remotely. \nFor over two decades\, York University’s Centre for Refugee Studies has run an internationally acclaimed\, non-credit professional development Summer Course that brings together practitioners\, policy makers\, and researchers to learn together about the most pressing forced migration and refugee issues. \nThis year’s Summer Course\, which is being offered in collaboration with Osgoode Hall Law School’s Refugee Law Laboratory\, will focus on research\, policy\, and practices at the intersections of forced migration and technology. \nThe number of people on the move increases each year. To adapt to this trend\, institutions that manage borders and refugee adjudication processes are deploying new technologies. At this year’s Summer Course\, we will turn our attention to the problems and opportunities presented by new technologies for refugee status determination systems\, human rights advocates\, border management officials\, and people on the move. \nThis interdisciplinary\, interactive\, and experiential course will explore how technology has been and can be deployed—in both rights enhancing and rights limiting ways—around the world in response to forced migration. \nWe will bring policy makers\, adjudicators\, researchers\, refugees\, and NGO actors together to develop ideas about how technology\, including artificial intelligence and machine learning\, can be used to increase fairness\, protect rights\, and help address forced migration at scale. Featuring presentations\, panels discussions\, and break-out sessions\, participants will be invited to think critically and thoughtfully about how cutting-edge technologies can\, should\, and should not be used in the forced migration space. \nAll participants who complete the full course receive a York University Centre for Refugee Studies Summer Course Certificate. \nPlease note that you must be accepted in the CRS Summer Course before being eligible to attend.
